Is Bowen Safe?
Bowen is safe for all ages, infants to seniors alike.
There is no forceful manipulation in Bowen Therapy.
The practitioner makes controlled gentle moves over specific locations on the body, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves, and the body does the rest.
I'm pregnant, is Bowen still safe?
Yes, Bowen can be used throughout your pregnancy to assist your body to prepare and become more balanced.
Please let your therapist know if you are pregnant or trying to fall pregnant so we can tailor our treatments.
Can I use Bowen and other treatment types at the same time?
For the best results it is recommended that you schedule other treatments such as massage, chiropractic, reflexology etc. for 4 days before and 5-7 days after your treatment, as this may reduce the effectiveness of your Bowen treatment.
Do I have to get undressed?
Bowen can be performed directly on the skin (you will be covered by a light cloth throughout the procedure) or through light & very stretchy clothing.
NOTE:
If you choose to have direct skin treatment modest underwear is required .
If you choose to have a clothed session please wear light and very stretchy clothing. Avoid jeans, slippery or thick fabrics.
I can't lay on a table. Can I still have Bowen?
You don't need to be able to lay on a table to be able to receive Bowen, as it can also be completed while seated or lying on your side.
Your comfort during the procedure is paramount.
I hate being touched. Should I still consider Bowen?
Yes. Unlike massage, Bowen has minimal contact and the points of contact are to specific muscles ligaments and tendons, which is followed by waits or non skin contact times between moves.
Let your therapist know when booking or at the beginning of your session and we will work together to make your sessions comfortable.
How many treatments will I need?
You are unique and your treatment requirements will be unique to you. Factors to consider are how long you have been experiencing the ailment and what compensations your body has made for the ailment.
Chronic conditions will likely require more time, where as acute conditions may only require minimal sessions.
Once you and your therapist are happy with the progress we can move to maintenance visits to keep you on track.
How long is a Bowen treatment?
Initial consultations run between 60 - 90 minutes
Follow up consultations 60 minutes
Babies 20-30min
What should I do after a Bowen Treatment?
Avoid other treatments / therapies for 4 days - as this may reduce the effectiveness of your treatment
Avoid hot or cold packs including hot and or cold baths and showers - this may reduce the effectiveness of your treatment
Increase your water intake
Avoid sitting for long periods of time - consider moving every 30mins
Consider light exercise or a walk - motion is lotion
Avoid vigorous or high impact sporting activities for 4-5 days after treatment
The therapist may also provide individual exercises or recommendations for you to follow after your treatment
